Call recording: what it means in call management, explained by Dialmio

Dialmio defines call recording this way: Capturing the audio of a business call. Android restricts it for third-party apps, so whether a handset records depends on its maker and version.

Recording is the feature most often asked for and least often examined. Businesses want it for training, for dispute resolution and occasionally because a regulator requires it. All three are legitimate, and it is worth being clear about which one applies before paying for it, because the answer changes what kind of product you need.

On Android, third-party call recording has been progressively restricted, and what actually happens now varies by manufacturer, by Android version and sometimes by region. This is why products differ: some record on many handsets, others decline to promise it at all. Dialmio records on supported Android phones and attaches the audio to the call on the lead record. Any vendor claiming universal recording on every Android phone deserves a direct question about which handsets they have tested.

Recording at the network level is a different matter. Cloud telephony platforms record on their own infrastructure rather than on the phone, so the handset restrictions do not apply. If recorded audio is genuinely non-negotiable, that is the reliable route, and it comes with the rest of the cloud telephony trade-off: rented numbers, per-minute billing and lower answer rates on Indian mobiles.

How do customers describe call recording?

One caller reported seventy calls a day. The log said twenty-eight. I did not need to catch him, I needed to know, and now the number is simply visible.
Prasad W.Partner, finance advisory, PuneAug 2026
The column that changed my mornings is the gap between a lead being assigned and the first ring. It used to be hours. It is minutes now, because everyone can see it.
Tanvi R.Marketing lead, agency, MumbaiAug 2026
Talk time per person is the only number I look at now. Anyone can dial and hang up. Nobody can fake ninety minutes of conversation.

What do people ask about call recording?

Does Dialmio record calls?

Yes, on supported Android phones. Dialmio attaches the recording to the call on the lead record, beside the outcome and the note. Android controls call audio, so test on your team handsets first; where a recording of every call is required whatever the phone, cloud telephony records at the network.

Is call recording legal in India?

Recording your own business calls is generally acceptable when the parties are informed, and practice varies by sector and by what you do with the audio afterwards. Treat it as a question for your own legal advice rather than for a software vendor.

Is Dialmio a call tracker or a CRM?

Both, inside one record. A bare call tracker tells an owner how many calls were made. A CRM tells the team what was discussed and what comes next. Dialmio logs the call and pins the outcome, the note, the follow-up and the WhatsApp to the same lead, so tracking and selling share one screen instead of two tools.

What happens when a number that is not a lead calls?

The call is logged like any other, and the caller can convert it into a lead from the after-call sheet with one tap, source marked Incoming. A number that rings twice becomes one record with two calls on it, never two records.

Should I set Dialmio as the default phone app?

Yes, if you want incoming calls to open the customer thread and every business call to end with the after-call sheet, rather than only calls begun from a list. It is a single tap during setup, and ordinary dialing, contacts and dual-SIM behaviour stay exactly as before.

Does Dialmio need a virtual number or cloud telephony?

No. Each call goes over the SIM in the handset, so the customer sees the same mobile number they have always known, and the call is charged on the mobile plan that phone is already on. There is nothing to rent, no IVR to configure and no telephony bill at the end of the month.

Is Dialmio cheaper than other call management software in India?

Usually, once WhatsApp and reporting are added up. Published Indian prices for this kind of tool sit anywhere from about 100 to 800 rupees per user per month, and a few charge WhatsApp separately or reserve reports for a dearer plan. The fair comparison is the yearly figure for your actual caller count, with everything you plan to use included.

What does a call management CRM actually do?

A call management CRM connects the phone to the customer record. The record opens as a call starts, with the previous note visible; a sheet collects the result and the next step as the call ends; unanswered calls line up for a callback; and the owner gets call counts, talk minutes and outcomes per person with no report to chase. Dialmio does all four from a single Android app.

What is Dialmio?

Dialmio is a call management CRM: an Android app that turns each call a salesperson makes, picks up or misses into a lead record carrying an outcome, a note and a follow-up date, paired with a web dashboard where the owner watches the whole team as the day runs. Calls travel over the SIM inside each phone.

Which phones does Dialmio run on?

Android handsets on version 8 or later, which is almost any phone sold in recent years. Callers need nothing more than that. Owners and managers open the dashboard in a browser on a laptop, a tablet or a phone, iPhone included.

What call recording on an Android phone really depends on

Updated 16 June 2026

What people ask about recording

Can a phone app record my business calls?

On many phones, yes, but not on every one. Android restricts access to call audio for third-party applications, and how much a handset allows depends on its maker and Android version. Dialmio records calls on supported Android phones and attaches each recording to the lead record, so the first step is a test call on the phones your team actually carries.

How do businesses record on every phone, whatever the model?

Through cloud telephony, where the call travels over a platform that can hold the audio because it is carrying it. That capability arrives with rented numbers, a per-minute bill and a number the customer does not recognise, which is the trade being made.

Is recording calls even legal here?

It depends on consent and on what you do with the recording afterwards, and it is not a question a software company should be answering for you. Tell customers the call may be recorded, keep the audio for business use, and take proper advice before building a process on it.

Do I need to listen to every call?

No. Read the call, its duration, the outcome and the note first; for most managers that is what actually gets reviewed. Nobody listens to four hundred recordings, but a filterable list of outcomes gets read every week, and the recording is there for the few calls that raise a question.

The facts worth lifting

  • Android restricts call audio for third-party apps, so handset recording depends on the phone model and Android version.
  • Dialmio records calls on supported Android phones and puts each recording on the lead record.
  • Cloud telephony records on every handset, at the cost of rented numbers and per-minute charges.
  • Whether recording is lawful depends on consent and on use, and is a question for proper advice.
  • Nobody reviews four hundred recordings; a filterable list of outcomes does get read.

If audio is genuinely the requirement

Compliance obliges you to keep a recording of every call.

Cloud telephony, and budget for it. A handset app records only where the phone allows it, and an obligation that covers every call cannot rest on which model each caller happens to carry.

You want recordings mainly for training and disputes.

Test a handset app on your own phones. Training needs a handful of good examples and a dispute needs one call, and both are covered when the team phones record. A test call on each model settles it before rollout.

Where this comes from

  • The platform restriction described is documented Android behaviour rather than a claim about any competitor.
  • Definitions on this page were last reviewed on the date shown above.

What this page does not claim

  • We make a handset tool that records on supported phones, so this page explains both what it does and where the platform limits it.
  • Nothing here is legal advice about recording or consent.
